A rather slender plant with a bulbil-bearing head of flowers on a terete scape 30-75 cm long, growing from a bulb 15-20 mm diam.
Ecology UK: (distribution according to flora) It occurs as a weed of cultivated land, but rather rarely, here and there in lowland Britain.

Fleurs : rose brun sale [blanc-rosé à bronzé, strié de bronze ou de poupre], peu nombreuses, en ombelle lâche munie de nombreux bulbilles; pédicelles inégaux,[brun sale] les plus longs égalant 3 cm; périanthe en cloche, à divisions obtuses; [Ovaire tronqué début anthèse] ; étamines égalant le périanthe, toutes à filets simples ;spathe à 2 valves inégales [ronde à la base en bouton] terminées en pointe linéaire très longue
Floraison France : Juillet-août.
Flowers: 6-8 mm diam., in a lax, bulbil-bearing head, only rarely without flowers, 50 mm diam.; bract or spathe 2-partite, long, linear; segments reddish, sub-obtuse, erect, with a slight keel; all stamens alike with linear filaments about equal in length to the perianth.
